Tree-Aid Ghana commissions Shea Butter Processing Plants and Warehouses in Mion District

Tree-Aid Ghana, a non-governmental organization focused on tree protection and global emissions reduction, has launched two warehouses and Shea butter processing plants, along with a motor tricycle, for the Nsuidon community and others in the Mion District of the Northern Region.

This initiative is part of a broader plan to empower local communities and is expected to be replicated in other areas of the Northern Region. The project aims to provide livelihood support by sustaining the Shea value chain and protecting Shea trees in the region.

The Country Director of Tree-Aid Ghana, who commissioned the project, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to planting and safeguarding Shea trees in the area and supporting women in the Shea industry. He highlighted that the warehouses were established to improve the storage system for those involved in the Shea value chain.

He also urged the beneficiary communities to take care of the facilities and ensure the growth of the Shea trees. Mr. Atindana Owin, the Officer in charge of Global Emissions Reduction Strategy, underscored the importance of protecting Shea trees, calling them the "gold of the north." He also noted that the new processing plant would significantly benefit women involved in the Shea industry.

Residents expressed their gratitude for the project, recognizing its positive impact on their lives. The commissioning ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including the Municipal Director of the Forestry Commission, a representative of the District Assembly, Shea nut buyers, and the chiefs and elders of the community.
