Offinso Traditional Council to hold final funeral rites of late Wiafe Akenten III in November

The Offinso Traditional Council, led by the newly enstooled Nana Dwamena Akenten II, is set to perform the final funeral rites of the late Paramount Chief, Nana Wiafe Akenten III, three years after his passing in January 2021.

Nana Wiafe Akenten III, who ruled the Offinsoman stool for 28 years from November 1993 to January 2021, is remembered for his strong commitment to preserving traditions and customs, as well as for championing significant developmental initiatives in areas such as education, health, housing, and infrastructure, including the impressive structure at the Offinso Hene Palace.

Following the late Omanhene’s burial rites in February 2022, the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II, enstooled Nana Dwamena Akenten II as his successor on January 2024, in line with traditional customs.

In accordance with tradition, Nana Dwamena Akenten II will hold a memorial service for the late chief on the evening of Wednesday, November 27, 2024, which will include traditional fetish displays ("akɔm") by the fetish priests. The final funeral rites will take place on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the forecourt of the Offinso Chief’s Palace.

The funeral is expected to draw numerous attendees, including indigenes of Asanteman, traditional leaders from across the country, clergy, politicians, and notable personalities, all coming together to honor the legacy of Nana Wiafe Akenten III.

In an interview with Cruz FM’s Issah Nabila, Nana Kwaku Dua II, Chairman of the funeral planning committee, who also serves as Dentin Hene and Nifahene of the Offinso Traditional Council, announced that shops and stores in the area would be closed to ensure the smooth conduct of the funeral proceedings. However, essential service providers will be exempt from this directive to accommodate the needs of the anticipated attendees.
