Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu advocates for a peace ahead of December 7 Polls

The National Youth Ambassador for Peace and Development, Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu, has launched a peace campaign ahead of Ghana’s upcoming general elections scheduled for December 7.

His message underscores the critical importance of peace in safeguarding Ghana’s democratic progress, calling on all citizens—especially the youth—to prioritize unity and harmony during this pivotal time.

In an interview, Ambassador Amadu highlighted the value of peace as an indispensable asset to the nation. "I appeal to all Ghanaians, especially the youth, not to take our peace lightly. The peace we enjoy today is a priceless asset that must be protected," he said.

He emphasized the need for a stable environment before, during, and after the elections, noting that peace is essential for national prosperity.

Ambassador Amadu also urged political leaders, particularly those from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to foster a peaceful atmosphere among their supporters. "I urge our political parties, especially the NDC and NPP, to lead by example and promote peace among their supporters. It’s equally essential that they communicate their policies effectively to the public. I firmly believe that this year's election can stand as one of the most peaceful in our nation’s history," he added.

Expressing confidence in Ghana’s Electoral Commission, Ambassador Amadu commended their efforts to ensure a transparent and fair election. "I have faith in the Electoral Commission's commitment to upholding the integrity of our democratic process," he noted, emphasizing that a credible election is fundamental to maintaining peace and unity.

Reflecting on Ghana’s political history, Ambassador Amadu lauded the nation’s status as a beacon of democracy in Africa. Since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1992, Ghana has consistently demonstrated its commitment to democratic values, marked by peaceful transfers of power and a maturing electoral process. However, he stressed that ongoing peacebuilding efforts are crucial to addressing challenges that arise during elections.

In a personal reflection, Ambassador Amadu shared his unique connection to the upcoming elections, revealing that his uncles, His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and His Excellency former President John Dramani Mahama, are both contesting in the polls. This familial bond deepens his resolve to advocate for a peaceful and fair election that benefits all Ghanaians.

Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu’s campaign is a poignant reminder of the role peace plays in preserving Ghana’s democratic legacy. His call to action urges citizens, political leaders, and supporters to act with unity and respect, ensuring that the election process further solidifies Ghana’s reputation as a leading democratic nation in Africa.
