Agortime Ziope District Assembly commissions ZIOSEC E-Block

The government of Ghana has begun commissioning over 80 educational infrastructure projects nationwide, an initiative spearheaded by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

This effort is aimed at creating conducive learning environments for students across the country.

As part of the initiative, the Agortime Ziope District Assembly has officially opened a three-story E-block facility at Ziope Senior High School. This project, which began under former President John Dramani Mahama's administration, has been completed by the current government.

District Chief Executive, Hon. Emilia Emefa Adzimah, expressed her gratitude to President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, for their commitment to education.

She also acknowledged the support of the Member of Parliament, Hon. Charles Akwasi Agbeve, in facilitating the project's completion.

"With today's commissioning, we're not just building a structure; we're opening doors to countless opportunities," Adzimah remarked, emphasizing the far-reaching impact of the project on the district and the nation.

This new facility aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all.

The Headmaster of Ziope Senior High School, Mr. Richard Mawuli Golo, expressed the school's readiness to transition to full boarding status, citing adequate facilities for such a move. Currently, the school combines boarding with a day system. It has 458 students—191 girls and 267 boys—supported by 68 teachers and two National Service personnel. As of November 18, 2024, an additional 358 new students have been admitted.

However, Mr. Golo highlighted several challenges facing the school, including inadequate lighting, lack of water, and insufficient staff accommodation. He appealed for teacher bungalows, a school bus, and the resolution of these pressing issues.

Speaking on behalf of Togbe Binah Lawluvi VII, Paramount Chief of Ziope, Togbe Botoza III expressed appreciation to the government for establishing the senior high school in the community. He echoed the call for water supply extension and the school's conversion to a boarding institution to boost enrollment.

Volta Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Archibald Letsa, announced President Akufo-Addo's directive to commission additional E-block facilities in the region. He also noted plans to convert the schools into boarding institutions, requiring the construction of dormitories, staff bungalows, and perimeter fences.

The commissioning of the Ziope Senior High School forms part of a broader strategy to improve education across the Volta Region. Other schools benefiting from similar projects include Gbekor Senior High School and Aflao Community Day School.

This initiative underscores the government's commitment to investing in education as a means of transforming Ghana's socio-economic landscape. By prioritizing educational infrastructure, the government is laying the foundation for a brighter future for the nation’s youth.
