2024 polls: ‘I’m more than committed to the peace of this nation’ — Speaker Bagbin
Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has reaffirmed his dedication to maintaining peace and stability in Ghana in the lead-up to the 2024 elections.
His statement comes after the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) paid him a courtesy visit, urging him to use his influence to promote unity during this crucial election period.
The delegation, led by GNACOPS’ National Executive Director, Obento Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, included teachers and students from selected private schools across the country.
They expressed their admiration for Speaker Bagbin’s achievements and praised his dedication to showing the youth the importance of peaceful coexistence as a cornerstone of democracy.
In response, Speaker Bagbin emphasized, “I’m more than committed to the peace of this nation,” promising to work tirelessly for free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections.
Speaker Bagbin highlighted initiatives he has championed to strengthen Ghana’s democratic values.
As part of Ghana’s 30th anniversary of parliamentary democracy, he hosted a seminar in Tamale that brought together experts to underscore the importance of peace to the public.
Additionally, he introduced the “Democracy Cup,” using football, the nation’s most popular sport, to convey messages of unity and peace.
“The foundation of life is peace,” Bagbin told the delegation, as shared on Parliament’s official social media accounts.
GNACOPS commended the Speaker for promoting these initiatives and for instilling the message of peace in young learners, who they described as the future leaders of the nation.
The delegation assured him that GNACOPS, through its educational network, would continue to support the peace campaign in schools across the country, helping shape a peaceful and engaged electorate in the coming generation.
