Ghana Trade Fair constructing O2 Arena-like multipurpose facility — CEO
Dr. Agnes Adu, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Trade Fair Limited, has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art multipurpose facility inspired by major international venues like London’s O2 Arena and New York’s Javits Center.
This ambitious redevelopment project aims to transform the Ghana Trade Fair site into a premier venue for both regional and international events.
In an interview with Accra-based Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Dr. Adu revealed that the facility will span approximately 20,000 square meters of indoor space, featuring a hotel, a spacious conference hall, multiple exhibition areas, restaurants, a data center, and a dedicated space for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The goal is to establish the Ghana Trade Fair as a landmark venue for large-scale events, contributing significantly to Ghana’s tourism and economy.
“We are building the major convention center in Ghana,” Dr. Adu stated, emphasizing that the indoor space will include a 10,000-square-meter exhibition hall capable of hosting up to 30,000 people in standing-room-only concerts.
Dr. Adu confirmed that several contractors are already on-site, with others joining soon.
“We started construction in 2020 and addressed key infrastructure needs like power, roads, and drainage,” she said.
After a temporary pause between 2020 and 2022, construction on the main convention and exhibition center has resumed and is now progressing rapidly.
This multipurpose design allows the space to accommodate diverse events, including conventions, exhibitions, seated weddings, and stadium-class concerts, with flexible storage and setup options.
Additional features will include a spacious lobby of around 5,000 square meters, restaurants, a made-in-Ghana gift shop, and a Forex bureau.
A hotel, amusement center, retail spaces, and the AfCFTA secretariat will also be integrated into the complex.
