Bawumia promises Free University Education for physical challenge persons
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice-presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reiterated his commitment to making university education free for individuals with physical disabilities, as part of an initiative to promote equal job opportunities and secure government sector appointments for them.
Speaking on the first day of his 15-day tour of the Ashanti Region, at Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District, Dr. Bawumia highlighted Ghana's progress under NPP-led educational reforms.
He noted that Ghana now ranks 2nd in Africa for quality education and 3rd in food security among 54 African countries, largely due to the "Planting for Food and Jobs" program.
Dr. Bawumia also pledged to provide greater resources to traditional authorities, expanding allowances to include subordinate chiefs, not just paramount chiefs, to support them in fulfilling their roles.
The NPP candidate’s arrival was met with large crowds of supporters dressed in party colors, singing, dancing, and chanting in support.
He emphasized that his administration would prioritize inclusion for people with physical disabilities, creating reserved government job placements to enhance their participation in the job market.
As the Ashanti Region tour marks the final leg of his nationwide campaign ahead of the 2024 general elections, Dr. Bawumia aims to consolidate support by showcasing NPP’s achievements and sharing his vision for an inclusive, empowered Ghana.
