You're becoming notorious for spreading misinformation, causing mischief; enough is enough – Afenyo-Markin blasts Joy News

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused Joy News and Joy FM of mischief, claiming that the renowned media outfits are becoming notorious for misinforming the public.

The leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus in Parliament lashed out at a Joy FM reporter on Friday, when he addressed the media on the ruling by Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament on the removal of four Members of Parliament.

Hon. Afenyo-Markin who said he has had enough of the alleged mischief being consistently done by Joy News against his person, urged the media house to put an end to it.

He said the media house can follow the examples of other media houses by expressing their opinion on matters but professionally.

“Joy FM, you people are known for a lot of mischief, and I would encourage you. No, I will say it, I will say it, I will say it. I will not pamper them. Let me address Joy News. Joy news, your role as a media house is to help our democracy. Joy is becoming notorious. Joy FM is becoming notorious for misinforming and doing mischief. Yesterday, they were quick to say that there is now a minority leader and a majority leader. I will not take any of that. I will say it. You can go and bash me, but I will accept my right. Your role as a media house is to play your role objectively and help the cause of democracy.

“Channel One TV, does it well. Okay FM, does it well? Peace FM, does it well? GHOne. There are other media houses. They express their opinions, but they do the right thing. You are quick always to mislead people, and it's not right. Joy FM, I'm saying it today. You can single me out and start your mischief to destroy my brand. I don't really care. The time has come for the country to tell Joy FM that do it right and do it perfectly. That is all the point I want to make to you,” Alexander Afenyo-Markin said.

Adding his voice, Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP Frank Annoh-Dompreh indicated that he shares the view of Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh said, “He's not speaking as an individual..we are telling you, in your face. Joy FM is becoming unbecoming. You are even lucky. I would have denied you the right to ask a question.”

On the removal of MPs, Alexander Afenyo-Markin stated that the decision by Speaker Alban Bagbin is politically motivated and does not help the country's democracy.

He emphatically argued that he remains the Majority Leader of Parliament and that the NPP Caucus still holds the Majority in the House.
