The Chiefs and People of the Dormaa Traditional Area, led by Paramount Chief Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II, launched the 2024 Kwafie Festival at the Abanpredease Palace in Dormaa Ahenkro on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
This year's launch marks the fourth celebration of the Kwafie Festival since the enstoolment of the Dormaamanhene, who is also the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs. The event coincided with the 25th anniversary of both his enstoolment and that of the Hemaa, Odeneho Akosua Fima Dwabeng.
The occasion was filled with royal splendor, featuring rich cultural displays of traditional songs, dances, and practices. During the event, the official anniversary cloth and paraphernalia were unveiled, along with the theme and schedule of activities for the celebration. Citizens and corporate bodies were also given the opportunity to donate in support of the festivities, which are set to commence on December 9, 2024.
Distinguished guests included the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Vice President of the Republic, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as well as the Vice President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Okokyeredom Sakyi Ako II, among other dignitaries and well-wishers.
The Kwafie Festival is celebrated by the people of Dormaa to mark a special season dedicated to cleaning, purification, and ensuring proper sanitation. The name "Kwafie" literally means "to dress or paint the house" in the Twi language. As part of the celebrations, property owners along major roads and lanes in the towns are expected to repaint their buildings and clean the surrounding areas to beautify the environment.
