AngloGold Ashanti's Mini Clinic screens over 33,000 people in health outreach
AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has revealed that its health outreach program, dubbed the "Mini Clinic," has screened and treated over 33,000 people after 15 successful editions.
At the most recent mini clinic held in Odumase, in the Obuasi East District on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Edmond Oduro Agyei, Community Relations Manager of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, credited the success of the program to a strong partnership between AngloGold Ashanti, the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, Quantum PLC, AGA Health Foundation, and Veolia.
The Mini Clinic provides free health screenings, addressing various health concerns such as eye exams, malaria tests, diabetes screenings, dental assessments and treatment, mass deworming, and blood pressure checks, as well as other outpatient department (OPD) services.
Launched in 2021, the program reflects AngloGold Ashanti’s commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to everyone, regardless of their circumstances. Mr. Agyei emphasized that the goal is to remove barriers that prevent people from receiving essential medical care.
“We understand that many people face challenges in their quest to access quality healthcare. So, our mission as a mining company is to break down those barriers and bring critical health resources directly to the doorsteps of the people,” he remarked.
The initiative has been widely appreciated by the community. Obuasi East District Health Director, Dr. Enyonam Kwawukume, praised AngloGold Ashanti for the impact of the Mini Clinic, highlighting how it provides vital healthcare to those who might otherwise struggle to afford it.
Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom, also commended the initiative and urged Ghanaians to prioritize their health, stressing that it is the most valuable asset one can have. He lauded AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine for demonstrating its role as a reliable development partner, particularly through its 10-year socioeconomic development plan.
Dr. Yiadom called on the community to support the company, enabling it to operate effectively and continue contributing to the well-being of the people.
