Ghanaians Will Not Forgive Mahama, If The 2024 Election Takes Place Without A Forensic Audit

If John Mahama, fails to let the Electoral Commission's office submit to a forensic audit before the polls on December 7, 2024, the people will be furious with the former Ghanaian leader. The fact that in the 2020 elections, Jean Mensa couldn’t come out with any accurate figure to declare Akufo Addo as the winner, suggests that there were electoral manipulations, which Ghanaians must not allow to happen again, since the consequences have been catastrophic.

The plan to rig the 2024 election once again was initiated by the Electoral Commission's stolen biometric devices. Once the opposition discovered this, the public was made aware of it. Even though the office of the Electoral Commission denied the allegation, they subsequently admitted to the stealing of the devices. If it's not a deliberate attempt to tamper with the results, how could the EC office have been so careless as to let devices that held confidential data be stolen by uninvited parties?

However, a man was found in possession of one of the devices a few weeks after they were stolen. However, since crimes are perpetrated under Akufo Addo-Bawumia's administration with impunity, the question of how the person got the device has remained unanswered. Ghanaians believe that the individual who stole the device was registering the names of unregistered voters because he was apprehended in Nsawam-Adoagyiri, an NPP community represented by MP Frank Annoh-Dompreh.

There have been widespread manipulations of voter registration, one of which happened in Pusiga. To gain the trust of Ghanaians, the EC fired the Pusiga District Director over voter transfer, even though Jean Mensa is still illegally transferring voters. The most recent incident occurred in Ghana's Central Region and led to a request that the Electoral Commission investigate 35,517 voter registration irregularities. These electoral frauds are doing more harm to Ghana than good.

The arrogant president, Akufo Addo, asserts that "he is not going to hand over power to someone he has defeated twice," which is a significant justification for the need for forensic investigation. More importantly, the revelation of electoral fraud by some NPP politicians over how the ruling administration manipulated the 2020 election, also calls for a forensic audit to ensure a free and fair election and preserve the nation's precarious democracy under the NPP leadership.

The nationwide protest on September 17th, during which participants placed their petitions to the offices of the Electoral Commission, demanding forensic audit for the voter register, was successful, attracting a number of both local and foreign media, including Bloomberg, ABC News, the BBC, the Associated Press, HalifaxCityNews, etc; successfully covered the event for people around the world in support of democracy.

Ghana has suffered losses to its economy, businesses, and investments, due to the inadequate and insufficient investigation of voting fraud in 2016 and 2020. The impact has also led to pervasive corruption, a high rate of youth unemployment, and exorbitant commodity prices, which have made life intolerable for Ghanaians. Since experience is considered to be the best teacher, law-abiding Ghanaians, and the opposition are calling for forensic auditing to prevent history from repeating itself.

Following the success of the demonstration, one of the spokespersons for the ruling party has said the government will also stage a demonstration to counter-attack the EC’s decision to submit to the forensic audit request. I want to tell the NPP government that the streets are there in Ghana for any demonstration, but with full assurance to Ghanaians, the December 7th elections will not come on without a forensic audit because Ghana can’t afford other wasteful years under Bawumia.

The NDC was unable to stop the E-Levy from being implemented, which ultimately led to the collapse of Ghana's economy, businesses, and investments. As a result, all eyes are now on Mahama to ensure that the necessary steps are taken to ensure a free and fair election, which will benefit every Ghanaian and revive the economy. This fight is not for the opposition alone, all Ghanaians should unite to remove the "Agyapadie" concept of government from power.
