Consider choosing one of our suggested routes for the sake of public safety — Police to #ReOccupyJulorbiHouse protestors
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its call to organizers of the #ReOccupyJulorbiHouse protest to choose an approved route, in light of intelligence that suggests potentially dangerous acts.
In a press statement dated September 20, Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, said police had again met with conveners of the Democracy Hub group planning the 3-day demonstration.
While acknowledging a court order banning protests in front of the Jubilee House, organizers proposed alternate locations which the police say also endanger "public defense, public order, public safety, public health and the running of essential services."
"Police, therefore, suggested the following seven locations to them for consideration: the Cantonments Post Office-DVLA stretch, the VAG Association junction-MTN Head office on the Liberation Road, El Wak side park, Obra Spot, Kawkudi Park, Efua Sutherland Park, the frontage of the Trade Fair,” the statement said.
However, "the organizers refused and regrettably, no agreement was reached."
Intelligence reports, according to the law enforcement agency, indicate planned acts like "defying the court order, wielding weapons and bulletproof gear, attacking MPs and officials, critical infrastructure, using motorbikes to cause chaos."
