Final phase of Apiatse redevelopment project to begin in October
The last phase of rebuilding the village of Apiatse, which was destroyed in a deadly explosion in January 2022, is set to begin in October 2024.
This is according to a statement from the Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Committee chairman Benito Owusu-Bio dated September 17.
"The Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Team is set to commence the third and final phase of the Appiatse redevelopment project in October this year, 2024," said Owusu-Bio.
This phase aims to complete the resettlement of the residents who were displaced after a truck transporting explosives for a mining company collided with a motorcycle and exploded, killing 13 people and levelling the small village.
When the explosion occurred on January 20, 2022, it left over 380 people homeless.
The first two phases of the reconstruction project saw the building of houses to accommodate the residents.
However, this last phase is crucial to fully resettle all residents and draw a close on the tragic event that shocked Ghana last year.
"We wish to put on record that the Government through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is committed to ensuring that the 3rd and final phase will be completed in good time," said Owusu-Bio.
