Instigate Demonstration Against Galamseyers Rather Than The EC

Focusing on perceived electoral grievances detracts from the pressing challenges facing our country today.

As the political climate in Ghana heats up, the National Democratic Congress, under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama, finds itself at a crossroads. It is essential to redirect energy towards addressing the more pressing issue of illegal mining, which is wreaking havoc on our nation.

I agree there must be checks and balances but It is worth noting that the same Electoral Commission that the NDC now seeks to protest against was responsible for overseeing the electoral process that allowed His Excellency Mahama to become the party's flagbearer. While concerns regarding operations may exist, to some of us a demonstration against the EC seems misplaced and counterproductive. The difficulty we are seeing today is partly a result which most of NDC's party communicators encouraged galamseyers to continue destroy the same country they claim they have at heart moreover, it presents a far more significant threat to Ghana's future than any electoral dispute. Is it not a fact that galamsey crisis has led to severe environmental degradation, including deforestation, water pollution, and the destruction of farmland and killing of innocent Ghanaians. Communities are suffering the consequences of this illegal activity, which not only endangers public health but also threatens the livelihoods of countless Ghanaians.

In fact Nurses are suffering,Teachers are suffering,Children are suffering, then again it is difficult for some Ghanaians to even feed twice a day but I believe the President have demonstrated much on the fight against galamsey. Instead of organizing protests against an institution that has facilitated political processes, the NDC should channel its efforts towards raising awareness about the dangers of galamsey. This issue resonates deeply with Ghanaians across all demographics, uniting them in a common cause that transcends political affiliations.

Mahama has a unique opportunity to lead the NDC in a demonstration that targets illegal mining and advocates for stronger regulations and enforcement against galamseyers. Such a movement would not only highlight the party's commitment to addressing pressing national issues but also position it as a champion of environmental protection and social justice.

By shifting focus from the EC to galamsey, the NDC can harness public sentiment and galvanize support from all corners of society. This approach would not only be more impactful but also foster a sense of unity among Ghanaians who are increasingly frustrated with the hardship in ghana and the ongoing environmental crisis.

To many of us the demonstration against the Electoral Commission is not only misguided but also distracts from the more significant issues that require urgent attention. Dramani Mahama must also instigate the NDC to demonstrate against galamseyers instead. This pivot would not only reaffirm the party's relevance in addressing national concerns but also showcase its dedication to the well-being of Ghanaians.

It is almost a cliché to quote the President’s vow to fight small-scale illegal mining; “I pledge to put my presidency on the line if that is what it means to end illegal mining” but it seems inevitable because since this pronouncement, a number of incidents have occurred to test the President’s commitment to ending illegal mining but sad to say, the President’s actions have not kept pace with his rhetoric leading to waning trust in the President’s commitment to the fight against “galamsey” by all well-meaning Ghanaians.

Let us prioritize the fight against illegal mining and work together for a sustainable future.

Our Kwame Nkrumah's ghana is really suffering the real battle lies not against our electoral processes but against the forces that threaten our land, our health, and our people. It is time for the NDC to take a stand where it truly matters.
