2024 elections: ‘Vote for NPP; we prioritize cocoa farmers’ well-being unlike NDC’ — NAPO

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cocoa farmers' well-being as a top priority unlike the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), says Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, the NPP's vice presidential candidate.

Dr. Opoku-Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, made the remarks during a campaign rally in Asunafo South in the Ahafo Region.

He urged cocoa farmers to vote for the NPP in the upcoming December elections to ensure their future well-being is secured.

"The well-being of cocoa farmers is not the priority of the NDC. Cast your ballot for the NPP to secure your future," NAPO urged farmers.

He noted that the substantial increase in the cocoa price under the NPP government demonstrates the party's dedication to improving the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and their families across cocoa-growing regions.

"The NPP has moved the cocoa price from 475 to 2070 and plans to increase the price again this year, clearly demonstrating the NPP's commitment to cocoa farmers," NAPO stated.

NAPO warned that an NDC government would abandon ongoing cocoa rehabilitation projects in cocoa districts if elected.

“The NDC will abandon the cocoa rehabilitation projects, which are currently ongoing in the cocoa districts, should we make the mistake of voting for the NDC," he said.

"PPRC has announced an increase in the producer price of cocoa to GH¢48,000 per tonne for the 2024/2025 cocoa season. A 129% upward adjustment from the price announced in Sept. 2023, setting the new price of a 64kg bag of cocoa at GH¢3,000 effective today," the post reads.
