NDC’s Risky Tactics: Smears and Empty Promises Could Backfire

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is treading on dangerous ground with its current campaign strategy, risking serious political backlash. Instead of elevating political discourse with meaningful policies, the NDC has chosen a path of pettiness and recklessness, which threatens to undermine its credibility. In a time when political ideologies should shape the future of a nation, the NDC has resorted to emotional manipulation. Their latest tactic, dubbed “Operation Recover All Loot” (ORAL) is a misguided attempt to convince Ghanaians that corruption within the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is so rampant that they will eradicate it swiftly and decisively.

However, what’s puzzling is the lack of scrutiny around this so-called "ORAL" move. Even if a special court on corruption were to be established, the legal process would still require time and due diligence. The idea that the NDC could swiftly prosecute corrupt officials under the NPP is misleading at best. So where does "ORAL" really come from? It seems more like a political ploy to appear tough on corruption without offering any real substance. Worse, this tactic is stoking dangerous emotions among their grassroots supporters, fueling unrest and promoting violent behaviour.

In another risky move, the NDC is attempting to tarnish the reputation of Dr Bawumia within the Muslim community, allegedly branding him as a pork eater. After their initial smear campaign, labelling him as “Bawuliar,” failed to gain traction, they’ve escalated to even riskier tactics. This strategy is bound to backfire. The Muslim community, known for its strong moral values, will not tolerate deceit and disrespect. Once they realize the NDC is trying to smear one of their own, there’s a strong chance they will retaliate, not with protests, but at the ballot box.

Instead of presenting alternative policies to address the challenges facing Ghana, the NDC is entangled in needless propaganda, mudslinging, and stoking tensions. This strategy not only diminishes their credibility but also risks alienating the very voters they need.
