Akufo-Addo lied about fighting galamsey - D. N. Asare

Derrick Nana Asare, Communications Officer for the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Accra Technical University (ATU) lambasted President Nana Akufo-Addo for reneging on his promise to combat illegal mining.

According to Asare, Akufo-Addo's vow to put his presidency on the line to stop galamsey was a blatant lie, designed to deceive Ghanaians and garner votes. "The president's inaction on galamsey is a clear indication that he never intended to fulfill his promise," Asare stated.

Asare criticized the government's lack of commitment to tackling the issue, citing the continued destruction of the environment and water bodies. "The president's failure to take concrete steps to stop galamsey has emboldened illegal miners, perpetuating the destruction of our natural resources," he said.

When asked about the government's efforts to combat galamsey, Asare dismissed them as inadequate. "The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) has been ineffective, and the Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Act, 2019, has failed to yield the desired results," he said.

Asare called on Ghanaians to hold the president accountable for his broken promise. "Akufo-Addo's lie has exposed his lack of commitment to the welfare of this nation. It's time for him to take responsibility for his actions," he concluded.
