Our facility recorded no death during shortage of renal dialysis consumables — Korle Bu Teaching Hospital
The management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has refuted allegations circulating in the media that 20 patients died due to the shortage of dialysis consumables.
In a news release dated August 20, the hospital stated "there is no truth to the claim that Korle Bu Teaching Hospital lost 20 renal patients this year because of a shortage of dialysis consumables."
It added "We have no record of any deaths during the period of shortages at the Renal Dialysis Unit."
According to the statement, "The allegations appear to have originated from a misinterpreted media flyer and infused with sensationalized online commentary on Facebook."
The claims of the hospital owing Gh¢6 million in debts to suppliers were also denied.
The statement stressed, "Currently, Korle Bu does not owe GH¢6 million to the supplier as is being falsely alleged."
It further revealed that "the Ministry of Health has settled the arrears due our suppliers."
Renal dialysis services are being restored with "a new shipment of consumables" received last week and "a second shipment" currently being cleared.
