Dr. Bawumia, Your Understanding of the Credit System is Flawed!

The proposal of a credit system by Dr. Bawumia is reckless and clearly a political gimmick designed to win votes without addressing the real needs of our economy. A credit system can offer advantages, but its implementation must be carefully considered and preceded by the establishment of a robust financial infrastructure, regulatory framework, and economic stability. Our current economic conditions are far from meeting these prerequisites.

For a credit system to function effectively, several critical components must be in place:

Robust Financial Infrastructure: This includes reliable credit bureaus to collect and analyse individuals' credit information accurately. Without accurate data, credit scores are meaningless and can lead to financial chaos. Additionally, a significant portion of the population must have access to banking services. In many developing economies, a large segment of the population remains unbanked, which would undermine the effectiveness of a credit system.

Regulatory Framework: A comprehensive regulatory framework is necessary to oversee the operations of credit systems. This includes strong consumer protection laws to shield individuals from predatory lending practices and ensure fair treatment, as well as privacy and data protection regulations to safeguard individuals' personal information.

Financial Literacy: The population must possess a basic understanding of financial concepts, including how credit works, interest rates, and the importance of timely repayments. Without this knowledge, individuals are at risk of falling into debt traps, further exacerbating their financial woes.

Economic Stability: A stable economic environment is crucial. High inflation, unemployment, or economic volatility can undermine the effectiveness of a credit system, as individuals may struggle to repay their loans.

Trust in Financial Institutions: Trust in banks and financial institutions is necessary for individuals to participate willingly in the credit system. Corruption or historical financial instability can erode this trust, making it difficult for a credit system to gain traction.

Dr. Bawumia’s proposal completely ignores these necessary steps, proving his lack of thought and understanding of our country’s financial realities. Instead of proposing a realistic plan to establish these prerequisites, he has resorted to making empty promises to gain political mileage.

It is evident that Dr. Bawumia's promises are deceitful and politically motivated. If he truly believed in the benefits of a credit system, he would prioritize establishing the essential groundwork first. Instead, his administration wasted over 21 billion cedis to collapse indigenous banks due to liquidity problems, when they could have revitalized these banks with just over 9 billion cedis. This reckless financial mismanagement further demonstrates his lack of genuine commitment to improving the country's financial system.

Dr. Bawumia is a known liar and cannot be trusted. If the credit system were viable, he would be implementing it now as part of the current regime. His proposal is nothing more than a desperate attempt to garner votes, showing his disregard for the economic challenges we face. We must see through his deceit and demand real, tangible solutions to our economic problems.
