Use of sex toys must not be problematic; not everyone gains satisfaction from sex — Whitney Boakye-Mensah
Entertainment pundit Whitney Boakye-Mensah has expressed her views on the recent Supreme Court declaration that the use of sex toys in Ghana is illegal.
Speaking on the United Showbiz show on July 27, 2024, she argued that sex toys should not be seen as problematic, emphasizing their original purpose of enhancing bedroom activities.
She said not everyone derives satisfaction from sex, suggesting that for some individuals, sex toys provide satisfaction.
"I don't see sex toys as something problematic. The basic reason for sex toys initially was to enhance bedroom activities.
“It's not everyone that gains satisfaction from sex, so they use the sex toys. There are others who use sex toys to avoid going out to engage in sexual activities with anybody.
“So for them, it's beneficial," she explained to MzGee, the show's host.
Addressing concerns about the potential negative effects of sex toys, Whitney acknowledged that addiction can occur due to excessive use, emphasising that there are both positive and negative aspects to everything.
"Anyone can be addicted to anything, even sex toys. As much as that is a bad side, there is a good side," she noted.
Whitney also called for extensive education on the anti-LGBT+ bill, pointing out that the debate around the bill had largely focused on sexual intercourse, neglecting the issue of sex toys.
"It is time we do a huge education on the anti-LGBT+ bill because when the bill came up, we were all looking at the sex aspect of it, not knowing the issue of sex toys was involved. This is a very good opportunity for education, to know how beneficial it is," she stated.
