Awulae Blay IX: 39-year-old businessman installed new paramount chief of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council
The Eastern Nzema Traditional Council has installed a new Paramount Chief to succeed the recently destooled Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III.
In a colorful ceremony held at the Royal family house in Atuabo on Sunday, July 21, businessman Egya Erzoah Aka Yeleboe Flanton, known now by his stool name—Awulae Blay IX, was formally enstooled as the Omanhene of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council.
The rites were performed by Obaahema Avo Nyimah III, the Paramount Queen Mother of Eastern Nzema, who is also the legitimate custodian of the Ellembelle-Manle Paramountcy.
“The Royal family would like to caution all divisional and sub-chiefs to refrain from dealing with the former Omanhene (Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III) as any of such act will be deemed contrary to the dictates of the Paramountcy and shall be observed as gross disrespect to the Council," she said.
The 39-year-old Awulae Blay IX, who hails from Atuabo, takes over the paramount stool following the destoolment of Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III for alleged gross misconduct.
In his acceptance speech, the new Omanhene thanked the royal family and called for unity.
“I call on all to rally behind me to harness the opportunities for my people, as education, health, good sanitation, as well as capacity building for the youth, will be my topmost priority," he said.
Awulae Blay IX holds a BSc in Business Administration from the Ghana Institute of Public Administration.
He is a successful businessman with interests in manufacturing, trading and real estate.
With over 15 years of experience in business, the new Paramount Chief is expected to bring his private sector skills to boost development in the Eastern Nzema traditional area.
