Okyenhene champions STEM education during 25th anniversary celebrations

Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin is emphasizing the significance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education as part of his 25th-anniversary celebration on the Ofori Panin stool.

At a durbar organized in his honor by the Adonten Division of the Akyem Abuakwa State, the Okyenhene inspected a STEM exhibition and robotics competition hosted by Kukurantumi Roman Catholic Basic School.

The Okyenhene highlighted that STEM education promotes exploration, curiosity, and problem-solving skills, which are crucial for national development. He encouraged students to pursue STEM fields passionately, equipping themselves with the skills needed to lead future scientific and engineering advancements.

During the event, the Okyenhene praised the educational strength of the Adonten division, noting the numerous institutions in Kukurantumi and Tafo that could be leveraged to drive development. He also urged successful professionals from Kukurantumi and Tafo to return and contribute to their community’s growth.

The Okyenhene called for continued unity within the division and adherence to traditional procedures in resolving chieftaincy disputes. His remarks were echoed by Daasebre Boamah Darko, the Chief of Akyem Kukurantumi and Adontenhene of Akyem Abuakwa, who lauded the Okyenhene’s leadership and commitment to education over the past 25 years. Daasebre Boamah Darko cited initiatives such as the construction of ten Amoatia Ofori Panin Model Schools and the establishment of the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Science (UCAES).

The Adonten division, second in command within the Akyem Abuakwa State, comprises over 155 towns and villages, including Kukurantumi, Tafo, Asuom, Apapam, Takyiman, Osiem, Adoagyiri, Nkronso, and Akooko. The Adontenhene oversees the administration of the state in the Okyenhene’s absence.

The anniversary celebrations of the Okyenhene will continue throughout 2024, featuring a variety of events. Highlights include the One Million Tree Planting Exercise and One Student One Tree Project Launch on June 3rd, the Benkum Divisional Durbar in Begoro on June 21st, the Grand Ohum Durbar in Kyebi on July 20th, the Gyase/Kwaben Divisional Durbar on September 27th, the Asona Family Reunion on October 4th, and the 25th Anniversary Football Gala on October 5th.

Other activities include the Okyeman Congress and Awards Night on October 19th, the Okyeman Fun & Food Fair at the Community Centre on November 23rd, a Golf Tournament on November 30th, a Non-Denominational Birthday Thanksgiving Service on December 14th, a Mega Musical Concert at the Kyebi Community Centre on the evening of December 14th, and a Children’s Party on December 28.
