International Women's Day: Lordina Mahama congratulates husband for choosing a female running mate again
Former First Lady Lordina Mahama has congratulated her husband, former President John Dramani Mahama, for selecting a woman as his running mate for the upcoming 2024 elections.
In her statement marking the occasion of International Women's Day, Mrs. Mahama said, "On this 2024 International Women's Day, I congratulate my dear husband, John Dramani Mahama, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the bold decision to select a woman, Professor Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, as Running Mate."
"And congratulations, Naana, for yet another opportunity to break the glass ceiling,” she added.
Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who served as Education Minister under Mahama, will be the first female vice president of the country if the party wins the upcoming polls.
Her selection is seen as a milestone in the country's push for greater representation of women in leadership positions.
The former first lady praised the choice, saying it reflected the NDC's commitment to empowering women and encouraging inclusion.
Lordina Mahama has been a champion for women's issues through her Lordina Foundation, which focuses on health, education and economic opportunities for women and children.
