NPP Primaries: Reach out to each other to heal wounds and bruises — Majority Leader to contestants
The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has urged candidates of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reach out to one another following Saturday's parliamentary primaries.
In the hotly contested primaries, 137 incumbents battle it out with new faces seeking to represent the NPP in the 2024 elections.
While the primaries have produced new candidates in some constituencies, it also left bruised egos and hurt feelings among those who lost, according to the Suame lawmaker.
In a statement to all candidates, the Majority Leader emphasized the need for unity within the party going forward.
“Let the contestants, especially the winners, stretch out their hands and reach out to each other as soon as practicable to reach out to heal wounds and bruises," Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said.
He added that "It was a family contest. However, as the case is in any such contest, some unsavoury statements might have been made."
The Majority Leader stressed that all NPP members must now come together to focus on the bigger goal of breaking the eight-year cycle of power alternation by defeating the opposition National Democratic Congress in 2024.
"No party person must be left behind in confronting our principal opponent in the December 2024 Presidential and General elections. With God on our side we shall overcome," he noted.
