It's unpresidential to speak awfully to the direct family members of Prof. Atta Mills; you've revealed your vindictive nature — NDC blasts Akufo-Addo
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for denying the people of the Ekumfi constituency development projects for voting out an NPP MP in the 2020 elections.
The president's assertion that the constituency was denied development for not voting for the NPP in the 2020 elections has drawn criticisms from the opposition party.
President Akufo-Addo made the controversial remarks during a meeting with traditional leaders from Ekumfi at the Jubilee House.
He expressed disappointment over the constituency's decision to vote out Francis Ato Cudjoe, whom he appointed as Deputy Minister and subsequently Minister.
In reaction to this, he admitted to blocking development projects from Ekumfi but pledged to redirect his attention to the area.
The NDC, however, describes the President's comments as unpresidential and reflective of what they describe as his 'vindictive' nature.
Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy Secretary of the NDC, voiced his disapproval during an interview on Eyewitness News.
Gbande emphasized the inappropriateness of President Akufo-Addo addressing the family of the late former President, John Evans Atta Mills, in such a manner.
He stated, "It seems that if the president was speaking to somebody like me, it would have been acceptable, but the president being the president of the Republic of Ghana was speaking to the family, direct family members of a late former president (Prof. Evans Atta Mills). So, to have made such comments, for us, is unpresidential."
He went on to assert that the President's remarks exemplify a vindictive nature.
“It just reflects the nature of the president we have, who is so vindictive and believes that he prioritizes politics over development. That is why his government is failing,” Mr. Gbande said.
