Stop blaming Covid for everything; you shared money like ‘bofrot’ during pandemic – Sammy Gyamfi descends on NPP
The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has lambasted the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for continuously blaming the economic challenges facing the country on the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since 2021 to date, government officials including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have argued that if not Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, Ghana's economy would have been the best.
Speaking during a conversation on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show, Sammy Gyamfi accused the government and communicators of the NPP of throwing dust into the eyes of Ghanaians.
He said contrary to what the NPP has been saying, the Covid-19 pandemic rather helped the ruling government to steal from the Ghanaian people.
He said instead of using Covid cash for its intended purposes, government decided to share the money among party people as though it was sharing ‘bofrot’ [usually called deep-fried bun loaf in English].
“They lie with confidence and arrogance so if you don’t take care they will deceive you, if you look at the facts you cannot blame COVID-19. What Covid rather did for them is that it became an avenue for them to steal. Their vice chair for the Northern Region. Felicia Tetteh has told us that because of COVID-19 the money they got which they were supposed to use to protect lives, they shared it amongst themselves like ‘bofrot’. Every constituency executive got GHS10,000.
"You used a pandemic as an avenue to steal then you turn around to blame Covid? Why? When Covid was in full flight look at the recklessness you were engaged in. The problem is your recklessness, it’s your thievery, it’s not any COVID-19,” Sammy Gyamfi said as he descended on the NPP government.
He said after years of hardships under President Akufo-Addo, John Dramani Mahama will become President after the 2024 General Election to make things right for the country.
