Criminal case against Cecilia Dapaah over refusal to declare property, income adjourned indefinitely

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Wednesday, October 18, provided an update on the criminal case being pursued against former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

In a post on its social media platform, the OSP said the case which borders on the Minister's refusal to declare her property and income has been adjourned indefinitely.

Hearing is expected to resume after a directive is issued by the Chief Justice.

In another post, the Office of the Special Prosecutor said the civil case against Cecilia Dapaah and Daniel Osei Kuffuor has also been adjourned indefinitely, pending guidance from the Chief Justice.

The case involves the confirmation of freezing and seizure orders by the Special Prosecutor of bank accounts and large sums of money from the home of Cecilia Dapaah.

Background:
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) commenced investigation in July 2023 in respect of suspected corruption and corruption-related offences regarding large amounts of money and other valuable items involving Ms. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, a former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources.

The Special Prosecutor took measures, including issuing a freezing order in respect of the bank accounts and other financial assets of Ms. Dapaah to facilitate the investigation. Subsequently, the investigation has eliminated five (5) of the bank accounts of Ms. Dapaah from suspicion of being tainted property.

On 16 October 2023 the Special Prosecutor revoked the freezing order in respect of the eliminated five (5) bank accounts of Ms. Dapaah.

The freezing order is still in force and effect in respect of the other bank accounts and financial assets of Ms. Dapaah.
