Doli bridge washed away by flood from broken dam, motorists given alternative routes

The Ghana Highway Authority has announced that a section of the N12 highway near Doli in the Bole District has been severely damaged after a nearby dam broke out.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, a "significant washout" occurred at Doli, approximately 25km from Sawla town, after the dam failure caused flooding that compromised the bridge connecting Southern Ghana to the Upper West region.

Engineers from the Highway Authority have assessed the situation and believe repair works could take some time due to the extensive damage.

In the meantime, alternative routes have been provided for motorists.

"Our preliminary investigations suggest that the washout was caused by a broken dam by the side of the Road," the release stated.

Motorists traveling from Wa to southern parts of Ghana are advised to take the Sawla-Fufulso road after turning off at Sawla town to connect to the N10 highway towards Techiman and Kintampo.

The reverse route is recommended for those heading north to Wa.

A statement further said, "We assure you that our engineers and technical team are working diligently to address the situation as quickly as practicable."

The Highway Authority has urged motorists to exercise caution and use the suggested alternative routes while repair works are ongoing.
