'It’s not good; the law must ‘bite them’ — Gender Minister vows to remove kids and beggars on streets
The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Lariba Zuweira Abudu has pledged to take decisive action to remove beggars and children from the streets of Ghana, emphasizing the need for the law to be enforced in this regard.
During an interview on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show monitored by ModernGhana News, Minister Lariba Zuweira Abudu expressed deep concern about the increasing number of beggars and children on the streets.
She highlighted the inherent dangers associated with their presence in public spaces and assured the public that her ministry was committed to addressing this issue.
"It's not good," Minister Lariba Zuweira Abudu remarked, reflecting on the growing numbers of beggars and children approaching drivers and pedestrians for food and money.
While acknowledging the complexities involved in removing these individuals from the streets, she hinted at the formation of an inter-ministerial committee.
This committee, comprising representatives from her ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, and other relevant stakeholders, will collaborate to develop a sustainable solution to the problem.
Minister Lariba Zuweira Abudu also called upon law enforcement agencies to carry out their duties diligently, emphasizing the importance of enforcing existing laws related to street begging and child welfare.
"The law must bite," she stressed, underlining the need for strict enforcement to address the issue effectively.
