NPP Flagbearer Race: ‘I’ll build factories in northern Ghana even if I lose’ — Ken Agyapong
Kennedy Agyapong, an aspirant in the NPP's flagbearer race has reiterated his commitment to developing Northern Ghana regardless of the outcome of his presidential bid.
In a tweet on Wednesday, July 26, the outspoken Assin Central MP wrote, "Of course, my intention is to develop the five northern regions to put certain individuals who you have repeatedly voted for to shame and even if I lose, I'll use my own funds to put up some factories in the north to show them that they are mistaken."
This follows Mr Agyapong's ambitious plan to drive economic growth and development in Northern Ghana if elected president.
Having observed the massive rural-urban migration of northerners searching for jobs down south, the MP aims to transform the northern economy, which has lagged in development.
His strategy involves incentivizing companies to set up operations in the north and creating ample employment opportunities for northern communities.
He stressed the equitable distribution of resources, noting that Southerners will also migrate to North for jobs.
In a tweet last week, Mr Agyapong stated, "I will push about 60% of our country's businesses to the north, and I'll make sure people from the south go there to look for job..."
He added, "There are lots of undeveloped lands up there," the aspirant pointed out, indicating the availability of space for industrial expansion."
Meanwhile, the race to become the NPP's presidential candidate is heating up as Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng and others running aggressive campaigns.
The NPP aims to break the 8-year governance jinx in the 2024 elections.
Its flagbearer will be selected at a national congress on November 4, 2023.
