Net worth of today's politicians is so huge

In just over 6 years, some of them are worth over 10 million dollars from a starting point of zero, without a lottery win.

On the bus this morning, I sat beside this gentleman whom I got to know has hailed from Ghana. When I sat beside him on a semi-crowded bus, he spoke fluent Ga and twi languages. At the end of his phone conversation, I heard him say in an angry tone, "ewifuo enkoaa." When he had said all his goodbyes, I decided to introduce myself just to have conversation with him. Conversation in nothing specific makes bus journeys much bearable and shorter, or so I was told.

I asked him who were the "ewifuo enkoaa" he was referring to. He told me that his schoolmate is a politician who, prior to 2016, had some few thousands cedis in his account. This gentleman told me his junior brother phoned him to announce that this politician friend had purchased he the British boga's house he had put up for sale, with raw foreign cash (over $200,000.00). My new acquaintance told me he was happy his house in Ghana is now sold, but he can not understand how someone who virtually had nothing in his account can now buy an expensive property with raw cash. I just kept quiet and let him carry on. He said in conclusion, "If all these guys have their current net worth assessed against what they had in 2016, plenty of them will go to jail."

I couldn't argue with him about his last sentence. If politicians and civil servants are made to explain the source of their net worth, wealth accrued within the last few years. If we asked politicians to tell us how they've come about their current financial status, many will end up in prison. Painfully, as it is, Nkrumah didn't know how to steal. Today, his son regards he, Osagyefo's honesty, as foolish, as he didn't leave any property or wealth for his children.

Rawlings, when alive and even in death, he is still being vilified for many things and more. But near the end, he didn't have 500 thousands or a million dollars to carry himself onto aeroplane ✈ and fly to the states to go look for cure for his ailments unlike todays politicians who take travelling outside Ghana for medical checks as routine exercise. He, Rawlings, died in a relatively ordinary surroundings, unfit for a retired African president. For whatever wrongs he might have committed, he is, we can imagine he is answering to his maker. But for those doing so much evil to the people of Ghana now, we pray that God allows for their trial by the people right here on earth before they embark on their eternal journey. I finish.

Last but not the least, we hear the Attorney General Godfred Dame, had on the quiet( nicodemusly) resigned from his role as secretary to the Executive Council of the National Cathedral. That's how you jump from one ship to safety. Hmmmm, wise move, if you'd asked me.
