Bangladesh's Deputy High Commissioner Advocates For Peace In Address To Young Legal Minds
Bangladesh's Deputy High Commissioner, stationed in Karachi, offered an insightful perspective on his country's foreign policy to a large assembly of students and budding legal professionals on 10th June 2023, in Hyderabad. The event attracted an audience of over 200 participants, including students, emerging lawyers, and other eminent personalities.
The diplomat reminded the audience about Bangladesh's history, emphasizing its sovereignty, obtained in 1971 under the inspiring leadership of the nation's founder, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The Deputy High Commissioner highlighted the key moments in the country's post-independence timeline, specifically the adoption of the National Constitution on November 4, 1972. He noted that the enactment of the constitution marked a significant shift in the nation's governance, and it came into effect on December 16, 1972, the first anniversary of Bangladesh's Victory Day.
The Deputy High Commissioner brought particular attention to Article 25 of Bangladesh's Constitution, which he stated, "serves as a blueprint for the country's foreign relations." As per the article, Bangladesh has been fostering its global interactions on principles such as respect for national sovereignty and equality, non-interference in the internal matters of other countries, and peaceful resolution of international conflicts. These principles align with international law and the doctrines enumerated in the United Nations Charter.
Reaffirming Bangladesh's peaceful approach towards international relations, he noted, "Friendship to all and malice towards none" has been the guiding philosophy since the nation's independence, as postulated by its founder. According to the Deputy High Commissioner, this diplomatic outlook, which focuses on peace and development, still informs Bangladesh's international engagements today.
The event allowed young legal aspirants and students to gain a deeper understanding of Bangladesh's diplomatic stance and its influence on global relations.
