Former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie

Former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie has launched his campaign for President.

He launched the campaign to become the next flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 general elections on Monday, March 13.

At the campaign launch held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie promised to transform the Ghanaian economy if his dream of becoming President comes to pass.

“There's an urgent need to do things differently if we're to succeed in agriculture as a country. We need to curb the effects of climate change on agriculture to improve our farming.

“The President Akufo-Addo government has laid a solid foundation for the economy with agriculture. I would transform the economy of Ghana with agriculture,” Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie announced during his campaign launch.

While touting some of his achievements as Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie said he has no doubt that farming will address the problems facing Ghana.

“Over a million farmers benefitted from the planting for food and jobs policy under my watch as agric minister. Under my tenure as minister for agriculture, Ghana has improved its food security index.

“Prioritising agriculture is the surest way to get all the sectors of the economy working,” the NPP flagbearer hopeful said.

According to Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, he plans to establish an appropriate framework to leverage private sector investment across all sectors and promote the efficient distribution of agro-inputs.
