Mahama Be The Jimmy Carter Of Africa

Former President John Mahama's desire to lead the NDC again is causing a storm of anger and disaffection within the party.

Reflecting on the divine hand that picked him and made him a Member of Parliament, appointed a deputy minister and a substantive Minister within four years and later elevated to the position of a Vice President and subsequently the President of Ghana.

All of these happened in his life without his inputs. Why is he exposing himself to attacks, insults, and unwarranted humiliation for a position he had on a silver platter.

Looking at the presidential results from 1992 to 2020 revealed an interesting pattern which made it possible of predicting the defeat of former president John Mahama in the 2016 presidential elections with high certainty based on the 2012 results.

All of our Presidents since 1992 in their second term bids lost some percentages of votes.

The results of the 1992 and 1996 presidential elections which former President Rawlings had 58.4% and 57.4% there was a percentage drop from the previous results.

President Kuffour also had 56.9% and 52.45% from the 2000 and 2004 respectively with a negative deviation of 4%.

President John Mahama had the worst results in his second term bid. 44.6%as compared to 50.7% in his first term, a negative deviation of 6% while President Nana Addo's second term bid he also had a negative deviation of 2%. out of his 2016 presidential election results.

It appears President John Mahama and the NDC didn't avert their minds to the trends that was unfolding from the presidential election results since the beginning of the fourth republic.

So far, the records available have revealed any sitting President who won his first term with votes less than 52% must consider his second term bid as a herculean task, if possible, must count himself out of power.

Former American President Jimmy Carter was unsuccessful in his second term bid, quickly channelled his energy into social and humanitarian services with his wife.

Jimmy Carter became one of the most successful ex-president that is celebrated all over the world and was awarded a Nobel prize laureate in 2002.

If President John Mahama became a president again, the citizenry would not give him a briefing space and that may result into insults, attacks and vilification which may aggravate his frustrations which he apologized for when addressing a graduation ceremony recently in Accra.

Based on the facts available the best option for former President John Mahama is the Jimmy Carter's Model.

Already President Mahama and the wife Lordina have started doing something great in the fields of social and humanitarian services. Recently they donated a 45-bed maternity and children's ward in Bole District Hospital.

President John Mahama you've seen it all, move to the global arena where in the near future you become the Jimmy Carter of Africa.
