Students of Ada College Of Education demonstrate over unfair treatment, lack of water on campus
Students of the Ada College of Education in the Greater Accra Region has staged demonstration against authorities of the institution over unfair and inhumane treatment meted out to them.
The heated demonstrations started in the early hours of Wednesday, March 24, 2021 with over 200 students with some of them half naked and chanting 'war' songs.
According to students, they lack treated water and the faulty power plant which they are billed ignited the demonstrations after the school's authorities refuse to heed to their pleas to get the water problem solved.
A student (name withheld) told this portal that they are always billed for pipe water but the pipes on campus do not work and the only water the authorities directed them to be using is a borehole water which is visibly dirty and not wholesome for human consumption.
The student added that there is no power plant in the school when power goes off. This, he says made students who are due to write exams today, March 24 unable to study because of hours of light out that hit the Ada township in the night of March 23.
"...they're billing us for pipe water but they're not providing us with the pipe water. We're using a borehole water. They say water is colorless, but this borehole water is yellow and also dirty. This's also the water they use to cook for us in the school's kitchen. That yellow water. Today, we will tell them that we are tired of the way they are treating us. This's is tertiary institution but we are being treated like children, they don't listen to us whenever we complain about some of these challenges...,"an angry student narrated.
He added: "...this big school, there's no generator. When there's light off, it means we will not iron our shirts and it it is in the night, it means we will not be able to learn until light is in. Meanwhile, they bill for all that but 'no dey see top'. We are tired of all these things, we are tired."
