LGBT in Ghana: Poverty makes the poor mind
US President Joe Biden has pressured Ghana to officially acknowledge LGBTs otherwise refusing to support the country and issue Visas for Ghanaian citizens. Whether or not he, as a Catholic believes same-sex marriage is a human right or most likely wants to create a wider base of followers to stand with him against former President Donald Trump, does not matter that much.
Late President of Ghana Atta Mills once was pressured by the UK Prime Minister David Cameron not accept Homosexuality as a normal way of life and no longer let it be seen as the imported sickness of the Colonial Masters refused to change Ghana's mind and be blackmailed. When life is about giving and taking alongside respect for different values why do Americans not accept the tradition of African Polygamy in return? It is all an issue of money and power another example of what money can do (in Ghana's soil is so much money, what about the situation in many heads making decisions?).
African supporters of Biden's move argue even the Vatican and Israel have accepted LGBTs official rights and not only tolerating their way of life. Galileo Galilee 500 years ago argued earth and moon circle around the sun for which he was sentenced to death. Pope Johannes Paul II confessed 20 years after a man walking on the moon that the Catholic Church had made a judgement mistake. This is politics and not the voice of God as even in societies where same-sex marriage is legal not all citizens agree with the decision but accept the majority voting.
A wise African President would have used the tool of a Referendum to allow all citizens to voice their mind and find the best balance between the interests of a small group and traditional values.
Time will tell whether after the fall of one nation under the feet of the white man other African countries will follow in a Domino effect which might create eventually the momentum for all African nations to rise up, stand side by side to form a truly unique and working African Nation in Unity.
Ghana as a financially dependent nation once more demonstrates that poverty makes the poor mind and gives a rich nation the upper hand over its traditions and values...values sold for money!
