At the Close of Day — Where Will You Go?
I. MY DEARLY BELOVED IN THE LORD, let's have deeper reflections on life. At the close of day today, where will you go? Do you actually know where you will go to? Beloved, don’t forget that even though the day closes every 24 hours, it also closes in seasons. It closes at 17:00 hours when work ends. It closes when you graduate. It closes when strength fades and life itself draws to an end. The sun doesn’t ask permission before it goes down. And life doesn’t either. So the question is not if your day will close, but where you will go when it does. Have you considered where you will go at the close of day today? Or to you, it is a routine; then the question is, are you sure it is truly routine? Work is worship when done unto God. “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men, knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” – Colossians 3:23&24. At the close of day, what reward will you receive?
II. MY DEAR BROTHERS IN THE LORD, at the close of work, where will you go? Yes! Work is not your destination. It’s your assignment for the day. The danger is when we confuse the two. When your 17:00 hours come, where do you go? Do you go home to family with a heart still chained to the office? Do you go to escape, to be traumatised, to chase what work couldn’t give you? It’s good to work; it provides bread, but bread alone doesn’t satisfy, and you can’t stay forever at the workplace, you must leave at a point either permanently or temporarily. That is why you must address where you will go from there. Jesus said, "... Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” – Matthew 4:4. Beloved, at the end of the academic pursuit, what next? You must understand that education is a gift. Learning sharpens the mind God gave you. But a degree is not an endpoint. It’s a tool. Solomon had unmatched wisdom, yet he wrote, 'Meaningless, meaningless… everything is meaningless' – Ecclesiastes 1:2 – when wisdom wasn’t anchored in God. The question after graduation is not just, 'What job will I get? But “What will I build with what I have been given? “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded” – Luke 12:48.
III. BELOVED SISTERS IN THE LORD, if your pursuit was only for status, at the end you will have letters after your name and emptiness in your soul. If your pursuit was for service, at the end you will have influence that outlives you. Sister, what are you pursuing, and at the end what will you use it for? Every life is moving towards a closing. Hebrews 9:27: “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgement." That’s the ultimate close of the day. So audit your pursuit: If you are pursuing money, yes, money is good: “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?" – Mark 8:36. At the end, money can’t cross over with you. If you are pursuing approval: “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? – Galatians 1:10. At the end, only God’s “well done” matters. If you are pursuing Christ: “I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” – Philippians 3:8. At the end, He is both the journey and the destination. So remember that at the close of work, the man of wisdom goes to the maker. He goes to rest in Christ.
IV. MY DEAR FATHERS AND MOTHERS IN THE LORD, let us remember that life is progressive: childhood, youth, work, and elder years. Let us set our minds on things above, not on earthly things – Colossians 3. 2. Each stage of the journey is part of the processes God is using to shape us for the next. David said, “Even when I am old and grey, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation” (Psalm 71:18). That’s purposeful progression. Not just ageing, but advancing in impact. At the close of this day, where will you go? Will you go back to the same patterns that drain you? Or will you go to the feet of Jesus? At the close of your work, will you go home empty or full of gratitude? At the end of your studies, will you go chase titles or chase transformation? At the end of your life, will you hear, “I never knew you”, or “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21)? This is a DIVINE NEW DAY PROPHETIC WORD of encouragement sent forth through the authority and power of Christ Jesus and delivered to the brethren through God's Vessel, Francis Ameyibor. Yes, the day is closing. The sun is setting. But for the one in Christ, every close of day is a step closer to the Day that never ends. “For this world in its present form is passing away… but the one who does the will of God lives forever.” – 1 John 2:17
V. 2026 IS OUR YEAR AND SEASON TO BE LIFTED UP—Let’s walk today like people who know where we are going when the light fades.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of this day for breath, for work, for learning, and for the chance to walk with you. Lord, as the sun sets on this day, set our hearts on you. Teach us to number our days with wisdom. At the close of work, draw us to rest in your presence. At the end of every pursuit, remind us that you alone are the reward. In Christ Jesus’ name, Amen.
