Directors cautioned to desist casting
Rosabel T. Adjei is one of the talents with a promising future in the Ghanaian movie industry. In her numerous movies, she has displayed the acting skills of an emerging rising star yet to be discovered on the Ghanaian screen.
Recently, she has called on directors and producers in the country to desist from casting quake actresses and actors from the streets, but rather use young recognised and registered actors and actresses who are registered with the Ghana Actors Guild (GAG).
Ms. Adjei made this known to the paper in an exclusive interview in relation to the growth of the movie industry in Accra. To this end, directors and producers in the country prefer casting for actors for movie production from the streets, simply because of the amount of money required to pay recognised actors and actresses registered with the Ghana Actors Guild (GAG).
She said that the attitude of producers and directors towards the industry, would not give recognition to young and up coming actors in the country who have had access to formal education on the movie industry in the country.
Ms. Adjei however made references on the local movies, which are mass produced, seeking to compete with the Nigerian movie industry, adding, “Recent local movies on the market are full of humour, but are not educative enough to teach lessons which the general public can appreciate.”
The rising star said that the production of local movies, which are not sub-titled in the English language, are not actually marketable for the international market, and as such should be sub-titled for foreigners to understand the core massage of the movie.
Ms. Adjei used the platform to advocate for the strengthening of the industry, by calling on actors in the country to be committed towards its development.
