Nadia Buari Urges Domestic Violence Victims to Choose Safety Over Social Pressure

Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari has called on victims of domestic violence to prioritise their safety and well‑being rather than remain in abusive relationships due to marriage, cultural expectations or fear of public judgment.

In a post on X, Buari highlighted the devastating impact of domestic violence on both victims and children who witness or endure abuse in the home. She stressed that children deserve environments filled with protection and love, not fear.

According to her, violence in the home can distort a child’s sense of security, making them afraid of the very people meant to protect them. She warned that children who are physically abused or exposed to violent behaviour often suffer deeper emotional wounds and may begin to associate home with danger.

Buari emphasised that domestic violence goes beyond physical attacks, noting that emotional, verbal, sexual and financial abuse are equally harmful. She explained that children raised in violent homes may develop fear, anxiety, anger, guilt, sleep disturbances, withdrawal and other behavioural changes.

The actress cautioned victims against relying on repeated apologies or promises as a sign that abuse will stop.

“Abuse rarely stops without help. Apologies and promises do not erase violence,” she said.

She also rejected the notion that victims should stay in abusive relationships for the sake of their children, arguing that children who grow up witnessing violence may come to see it as normal.

Buari stressed that cultural expectations, marriage and public opinion should never outweigh personal safety.

“Love is not fear,” she declared.
