Ray Moni Fires Back at Baaba Cann Over Criticism of Lil Win’s ‘A Journey to Africa’
The manager of multifaceted Ghanaian entertainer Kwadwo Nkansah—popularly known as Lil Win—Ray Moni, has launched a scathing attack on entertainment pundit Baaba Cann over her critical remarks about Nigerian actress Destiny Etiko’s role in the upcoming film A Journey to Africa.
The Journey to Africa, an ambitious pan‑African film project currently being produced by Lil Win, features a star‑studded cast including legendary Nigerian screen icons Kanayo O. Kanayo, Patience Ozokwor, Destiny Etiko, and Mike Ezuruonye.
Although still in production, the movie has already sparked massive buzz and heated debate across the entertainment industry. The latest controversy erupted after Baaba Cann shared her views on Neat FM’s Entertainment Show, hosted by Ola Michael.
Baaba Cann criticized the project after watching leaked behind‑the‑scenes footage, arguing that Destiny Etiko’s role appeared misaligned with the film’s core themes and cultural setting.
In a fiery Facebook post, Ray Moni—known in private life as Richard Amankwah—hit back, accusing the pundit of displaying ignorance on national radio.
“How can any rational media practitioner pass judgment on a project after seeing only behind‑the‑scenes footage?” he wrote. “What you are looking at is merely the process, not the final film.”
He strongly defended the casting choices, highlighting the calibre of talent involved.
“For the record, the cast includes some of the finest actors in Africa right now. Destiny Etiko is a phenomenal actress. If her work isn’t your preference, that’s fine—millions of fans feel otherwise.”
Ray Moni went further, praising Lil Win’s ambition and creativity.
“Lil Win is achieving feats your favourite actors can’t match. Instead of commending his vision, you choose to spew nyanyanpu [nonsense].”
He concluded by urging critics to reserve judgment until the movie is officially released.
