Ghana’s film industry needs urgent revival – Pete Edochie appeals to Mahama
Veteran Nigerian actor Pete Edochie has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to support efforts to revive Ghana’s film industry.
He said Ghana has produced talented actors and quality films in the past but expressed concern that the country’s film output has declined in recent years.
According to him, addressing the challenges facing the industry would require stronger government support, investment from the private sector and a renewed commitment to filmmaking.
“Ghanaian actors generally are very, very good, exceptionally good. But I don't find more themes from Ghana as it was previously, and I don't know what the problem is," Edochie made the remarks in an interview with Accra-based TV3 on Tuesday, October 6.
He said the decline could be linked to several factors, including limited government participation, industry-related challenges, inadequate investment and the need to develop more talent.
The veteran actor also urged stakeholders in Ghana to study global developments in film and cinema and position the local industry to compete internationally.
Edochie also praised President Mahama for his efforts to engage the Ghanaian diaspora and said his confidence in the President made him hopeful that he would support the film industry if a direct appeal was made.
