Exciting Alex Acheampong teams up with Celestine Donkor on new gospel single ‘Afa’
Gospel music enthusiasts in Ghana and beyond are set for a new musical offering as talented composer and songwriter Alex Acheampong prepares to release his latest single, Afa, featuring celebrated gospel vocalist Celestine Donkor.
The song is scheduled to be released across all major digital platforms on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
More than just a musical piece, Afa is presented as an invitation to listeners to experience the goodness of God. The song carries a message about the blessings, opportunities and transformation that can come with placing one’s trust in God.
Inspiration behind ‘Afa’
According to Alex Acheampong, the inspiration for the song was drawn from his personal relationship and walk with God.
“When you accept God, doors open. Marriage, travels, divine connections, peace, so many things follow. ‘Afa’ is simply my way of telling the world, ‘Come and see what God can do.’ If you try Him, you won’t be disappointed,” he said.
The title Afa is an Akan expression meaning “it has worked” or “it’s a done deal.”
The expression reinforces the song’s central message of putting God first and trusting Him to bring other things into place.
A blend of contemporary gospel sounds
Musically, Afa combines Alex Acheampong’s songwriting ability with a catchy rhythmic arrangement and contemporary gospel elements designed to appeal to both church audiences and mainstream music lovers.
The addition of Celestine Donkor’s distinctive and powerful vocals further enhances the song, bringing together the creative strengths of two established voices in Ghanaian gospel music.
Describing the project, Celestine Donkor said, “This song is a testimony. It’s going to bless homes, and I’m honoured to be part of it.”
She added, “I've always been a lover of SDA music and musicians, hence, my excitement for this project.”
Emmanuel Praise Concert
Following the release of Afa, Alex Acheampong is also expected to host the Ghana edition of his much-anticipated Emmanuel Praise Concert in December.
