'We the citizens have much more to do' – Joselyn Dumas reacts to deadly floods in Accra
Actress Joselyn Dumas has responded to the devastating June 29 floods that hit Accra and other parts of the country, saying citizens also have a critical role to play in addressing the recurring disaster.
In a post on social media, she acknowledged that government would continue to provide support to affected communities but stressed that individual responsibility is equally important.
“Well, the government will do their best to help in this situation. But we, the citizens, have much more to do than the government. I hope we know that?” she wrote.
Her comments follow torrential rains that caused widespread flooding across the Greater Accra Region on June 29, leaving several communities submerged and disrupting daily life.
Authorities say the disaster has claimed 12 lives, left seven people missing, and displaced more than 38,000 people from 7,761 households.
Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak noted that the rainfall recorded was the highest in the region since 1995, overwhelming sections of the capital’s drainage systems.
Among the reported tragedies were incidents in which a mother and child were swept away in Achimota Abofu, as well as three people who reportedly died from electrocution inside their homes in Alajo.
