'Youth in Cape Coast are not lazy, we need to be collaborative' — Spio Jungo
Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Promotions, organizers of the Central Music Awards, Spio Jungo, has challenged the youth of Cape Coast to embrace collaboration and collective growth as a pathway to unlocking the full potential of the ancient city.
In a thought-provoking social media post, the event promoter and entrepreneur rejected the notion that the youth of Cape Coast are lazy, arguing instead that many young people have been held back by the belief that opportunities must always come from external sources such as government, influential individuals, or outsiders.
According to him, one of the city's most valuable yet underutilized resources is the people themselves.
"I honestly don't believe the youth of Cape Coast are lazy," he stated. "Perhaps what has held many of us back is the belief that opportunities must always come from somewhere else. Over the years, I have come to realize that one of our greatest untapped resources is each other."
Drawing from his experiences working across various sectors including events, nightlife, business, and the creative industry, Spio Jungo emphasized that remarkable achievements become possible when people unite around a common purpose.
He noted that while some individuals possess innovative ideas but lack resources, others have resources but are searching for viable ideas to invest in. There are also many talented young people with skills, energy, and time who are willing to contribute to meaningful projects.
The Heritage Promotions CEO believes that intentionally connecting these strengths could significantly transform the local economy and create new opportunities for young people.
Reflecting on his own journey, Spio Jungo expressed gratitude to the many individuals who have supported his efforts over the years. He highlighted the importance of relationships, partnerships, and teamwork in achieving success.
"I have been fortunate to support events, businesses, and talented musicians in Cape Coast, and I am grateful to everyone who has also supported me along the journey. None of us succeeds alone," he wrote.
He further encouraged residents to shift the focus away from unhealthy competition and comparisons, and instead explore ways of working together for the collective benefit of the community.
"Maybe the conversation we should be having is not who is doing better than whom, but how we can collectively build a stronger Cape Coast for all," he said.
Spio Jungo concluded his message with a call for unity, stressing that Cape Coast already possesses the talent, creativity, and human capital needed for progress.
"What would happen if we spent less time pulling each other down and more time lifting each other up? I believe we would create more jobs, more businesses, more opportunities, and a future our young people can be proud of."
