Veteran Movie Producer Steve Asare Hackman honoured on Father’s Day

As part of this year’s Father’s Day celebration on Sunday, 21st June 2026, Ghanaian actress and movie producer Dzifa Agbetepey, with support from Royal Women in Cinema Ghana, paid tribute to veteran filmmaker and industry pioneer Steve Asare Hackman of Hacky Films for his immense contribution to Ghana’s movie industry.

The gesture celebrates one of Ghana’s most respected trailblazers in filmmaking — a man whose dedication, mentorship, and commitment to nurturing talent have shaped the careers of countless actors, actresses, directors, and producers.

Speaking on Father’s Day, Dzifa Agbetepey expressed profound gratitude to Mr. Hackman for believing in her potential and offering her the opportunity that transformed her career.

“Mr. Steve Asare Hackman produced and directed OH Mother, the film that gave me my first major lead role and brought me to stardom. I will always be grateful for the confidence he had in me and for opening the door that changed my life. This Father’s Day, I simply want to celebrate and honour him for the fatherly role he has played in the lives of many people in our industry. His legacy deserves to be appreciated while he is with us,” he stated.

Steve Asare Hackman is widely regarded as one of the foundational figures of Ghana’s modern film industry. He built his early career in Liberia in the late 1970s and 1980s before returning to Ghana in 1989 with a rich collection of celluloid films and equipment that supported many local filmmakers during the industry’s formative years.

Through Hacky Films, he became a key pioneer of Ghana’s video film era, creating opportunities for emerging talents and contributing significantly to the evolution of what is now known as the Ghanaian movie industry.

Mr. Hackman also served as President of the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) from 2013 to 2016, where he championed anti‑piracy initiatives to protect the intellectual property of Ghanaian filmmakers.

This Father’s Day, Dzifa Agbetepey and Royal Women in Cinema Ghana celebrate Mr. Steve Asare Hackman for his outstanding legacy, mentorship, and invaluable contribution to Ghanaian cinema — describing him as a true icon whose impact will continue to inspire generations of filmmakers and actors.
