‘Sukura: The Home Coming’ Sweeps 2026 Ghana Movie Awards with Seven Wins
Sukura: The Home Coming emerged as the biggest winner at the 2026 Ghana Movie Awards, taking home seven awards and solidifying its status as one of the year’s standout Ghanaian films.
Produced by Janet Ayesu and Edmund Dankyi, the film clinched the coveted Best Picture award and dominated several major categories on the night.
Janet Ayesu was crowned Discovery of the Year, while veteran actress Kalsoume Sinare won Best Supporting Actress for her role in the production. The film also excelled in technical categories, with Kofi Asante winning Achievement in Cinematography, Godwin Mensah (Vegas) taking Achievement in Production Design, and Lydia Ashitey earning Achievement in Make‑up and Hairstyling.
The film’s success was further boosted when Deyemi Okanlawon won Best Actor – African Collaboration for his performance in Sukura.
Held under the theme “Rewarding African Excellence,” this year’s ceremony brought together filmmakers, actors and key industry stakeholders to celebrate outstanding contributions to African cinema.
Speaking after the event, producer Janet Ayesu expressed gratitude to the cast, crew and supporters, describing the film’s triumph as a reflection of the team’s passion, dedication and hard work. Co‑producer Edmund Dankyi added that the film’s success underscores the rising global influence of African storytelling.
Written by award‑winning writer Oheneba Ahenkan Amoah, Sukura: The Home Coming follows the journey of an African‑American man seeking to reconnect with his ancestral roots. Its themes of identity, culture, family and resilience have resonated strongly with audiences and critics.
