Shatta Wale Says He Commands Jay‑Z‑Level Respect in Ghana, Claims $1m Per Show
Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale says the level of respect he receives in Ghana is comparable to the reverence shown to global icons Jay‑Z and Beyoncé in the United States.
Speaking in an interview, the award‑winning artiste claimed his influence and stature at home are so strong that he earns up to $1 million per show in Ghana.
“The respect I get there is the same kind of respect they give to Jay‑Z and Beyoncé in the US. That’s why I’m not chasing the international market like Burna Boy, Davido and Wizkid,” he said.
Shatta Wale added that from the moment he broke into the mainstream, he has always viewed himself as an international act — one who must work consistently to sustain his brand.
The dancehall artiste remains one of Africa’s most decorated performers, boasting over 100 career awards and holding the record as the most awarded African artiste at the International Reggae & World Music Awards (IRAWMA). His feature on Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift album — specifically on the hit track Already — earned global acclaim and won Best Collaboration at the BreakTudo Awards in Brazil.
