Any pastor who refuses to pay church workers is an armed robber - MC Yaa Yeboah

Ghanaian media personality MC Yaa Yeboah has ignited strong reactions after criticizing some church practices, particularly the treatment of workers and the enforcement of tithes.

Speaking on United Showbiz, she did not mince words, stating that any pastor who refuses to pay individuals who work in the church is no different from an “armed robber.” According to her, it is unjust for churches to demand financial contributions from members while failing to compensate those who offer their time and services.

MC Yaa Yeboah argued that if churches insist on members paying tithes—sometimes under pressure—then fairness demands that those who actively work within the church structure should also be properly remunerated rather than being dismissed with promises of spiritual blessings.

She further emphasized that tithing should not be treated as a compulsory obligation for every congregant. In her view, only individuals who are gainfully employed should be encouraged to pay tithes, while those who are unemployed should not be coerced or made to feel guilty for not contributing financially.

“If churches are demanding tithes whether people like it or not, then such pastors are thieves,” she stated, highlighting what she sees as a growing culture of financial pressure within some religious institutions.

Concluding her remarks, she reiterated that church workers deserve tangible rewards for their efforts, stressing that phrases like “God will bless you” are not sufficient compensation for people who dedicate their time and energy to church duties.
