Mohbad’s father insists on DNA test before burial amid ongoing dispute
The father of late Nigerian singer Mohbad has taken a firm position in the ongoing dispute over his son’s burial, insisting that a DNA test must be conducted before any final rites.
Joseph Aloba said he will not proceed with the burial until the paternity of Mohbad’s son, Liam, is conclusively established.
“Without DNA, we cannot proceed. It is part of the evidence,” he stated in a video shared online.
A Magistrate Court in Ikorodu had earlier ordered a DNA test to determine whether the child is indeed Mohbad’s biological son.
However, Aloba has alleged that the process is being deliberately obstructed.
“Some powerful people have connived to use Mohbad’s death to frustrate me… now they have gone to pick a questionable DNA centre,” he claimed.
He also indicated that he may seek to have the case moved out of Lagos to Ekiti State, adding that he will consult his lawyer on the next steps.
Despite the tensions, he appealed to the Lagos State Government to permit him to bury his son once the DNA process is completed.
“I am calling on the government to allow me to bury my son, but the DNA must be done first,” he stressed.
Mohbad died in September 2023, and the circumstances surrounding his death, estate, and the paternity of his son continue to generate widespread public interest.
