'Choosing the right partner is crucial in creative arts industry' – Kwaku Manu
Popular Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwaku Manu has shared insights into the personal and relationship challenges faced by individuals in the creative arts industry.
Speaking on the entertainment programme United Showbiz, Kwaku Manu stressed that selecting a partner who understands the nature of the job is crucial for those in the industry.
According to Kwaku Manu, the entertainment industry, particularly the film sector, comes with unique professional demands that can create tension in marriages and relationships. He explained that actors often have to follow the instructions of directors when performing scenes, which can sometimes lead to misunderstandings with spouses or partners.
Kwaku Manu highlighted that romance scenes in movies can be a source of conflict if partners don't understand the nature of the job.
"Most of the scenes we act are directed by the director. Sometimes romance scenes are required in the script, and those things can create problems in marriages if your partner doesn’t understand the nature of the job," he explained.
The actor noted that even when partners claim to understand the demands of the industry, disagreements can still arise, especially with scenes involving physical closeness or repeated takes. He added that these situations can lead to complaints from spouses who feel uncomfortable about the level of physical contact involved in certain roles.
Beyond acting roles, Kwaku Manu highlighted the demanding schedule of the entertainment industry. The festive season, particularly Christmas, is often the busiest period for actors, musicians, and other creative professionals, leaving them little time for their families.
He noted that some industry players struggle to find time for their spouses and children during busy periods, creating tension at home. Kwaku Manu advised individuals in the creative arts to carefully choose partners who understand and support their work.
Having a supportive partner can reduce conflicts and allow creatives to focus on their careers. Kwaku Manu emphasized that the creative arts industry offers great opportunities but also comes with personal sacrifices.
